PRIDGEON'S SHENANDOAH LEGION

Progressing our Hobby

In another forum someone was discussing interpreting to the public when they were asked a question by a spectator. The question seemed simple enough, but at the same time might be the most difficult question to answer.

Q: What did you do yesterday?

As we all work to improve our impressions, I think we sometimes get caught up in the material aspect and not focus on the personality aspect. I know that I do this at times and more often focus on which new item can I add to my kit when I forget that there is something I can add to my impression and it doesn't cost anything.

As we look to the winter season and then to the coming events next year, we will have opportunities to encounter spectators and such who might ask this question.

Any thoughts on the best ways to approach this?

I know that it depends on the portrayal at the time, for most soldiers it is a matter of knowing the time line of the event we are doing. Where did we just march from, how far, how long etc.. Or if garrisoned, how long have we been here, what details did you have (guard, wood, picket duty).
But for those who do civilians at events like "A Gathering Storm", what do you say to those visitors who ask you?

Just some food for thought for the off season..

Greg
